Biblioshiny

The shiny app for no coders

Biblioshiny is the web application interface of bibliometrix, designed for no-coders. It brings the full analytical power of bibliometrix into an intuitive, interactive environment, making bibliometric research accessible to scholars regardless of their programming background. No R knowledge required: just launch the app and follow the workflow.

An interface built around the SAAS workflow

biblioshiny is organized around the SAAS framework — a four-stage methodology for rigorous and reproducible bibliometric research:

Search → Appraisal → Analysis → Synthesis

Each stage maps directly to a section of a scientific article, ensuring full transparency from data collection to final interpretation.

Data Management

biblioshiny handles the entire data pipeline with ease:

  • Import & convert
bibliographic records from Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, OpenAlex, Lens.org, Dimensions, and Cochrane
  •
  • API integration
for direct data retrieval from OpenAlex and PubMed
  •
  • Filter
by publication year, journal, country, citation count, and custom rankings
  •
  • Merge collections
    from multiple databases
  •
  • Citation matching
an intelligent algorithm to reconcile references across sources
  •
  • PRISMA flow diagram
automatically generated to document the data selection process, from identification to final inclusion

Analytics & Visualization

Main information dashboard
a comprehensive overview of the key bibliometric indicators of the collection

Three-Field Plota Sankey diagram connecting three metadata fields (e.g., cited references, authors, keywords) to reveal relational patterns at a glance

Three-level metrics covering Sources (journal performance, Bradford’s law), Authors (productivity, h-index, Lotka’s law, collaboration patterns), and Documents (citation analysis, trend topics, RPYS)

Life Cycle Analysisfits a logistic growth model to publication trends to identify whether a research field is emerging, growing, mature, or saturating, with forecasting capabilities

Knowledge Structure Analysis

Conceptual structure
co-word networks, thematic mapping (strategic diagrams), and thematic evolution over time

Intellectual structure
co-citation analysis at document, author, and source level; historiograph; bibliographic coupling

Social structure
co-authorship networks at author, institution, and country level, with an interactive collaboration world map

Content Analysis

biblioshiny goes beyond metadata to explore the full text of key publications:

  1. Citation function analysis (background, method, comparison, critique)
  2. Keyword and concept extraction (TF-IDF, RAKE, YAKE)
  3. Word frequency trends and structural analysis (IMRaD framework)
  4. AI-powered summaries via Biblio AI

Biblio AI

Biblio AI is the integrated AI assistant embedded in biblioshiny. It helps researchers interpret bibliometric results, generate insights, and translate quantitative outputs into clear, context-aware research narratives, supporting the synthesis and interpretation phases of the SAAS workflow.
